We're passionate about our responsibility to protect the environment, whether it be the way we operate, the packaging we use or the business partners we collaborate with. To quote the Dalai Lama of the Tibetan Monks "It is our collective and individual responsibility to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live".
In partnership with our sister company (CMO Stores) we are currently engaged in a charitable and environmental initiative entitled CM Grow. We have together partnered with the national charity Trees For Cities, and It is our joint objective to reduce our carbon footprint and improve air quality by realising a target of planting 5000 trees - around 2 acres - within 2 years. That’s sufficient to create enough oxygen for each of our employees, plus a lot more!
We need to raise £30,000 to hit this first goal so our teams will undertake a series of fundraising challenges throughout the year with the aim of beginning to plant trees during the 2021/22 planting season.
You can donate via our Justgiving page by donating a sapling, and don’t forget to leave us a message of encouragement for our upcoming fundraising events! You can also follow our progress and join the conversation on our Instagram Page or our Facebook Page
None of our distribution centre waste goes to landfill. All waste is segregated then recycled or processed through an energy recovery system.
We have recently invested £10.5k installing low energy LED lighting throughout our distribution centre projected to save 53,000 KW/H of energy per year.
Our transport partners DPD and The Pallet Network work tirelessly to ensure all freight is delivered on vehicles loaded as close to capacity as possible, driven economically and routed to maximise fuel efficiency.
Although initially our sample packages may appear to use an excessive amount of packaging, many years of experience, trial and error have lead to our current solution. As sample packages are delivered by parcel courier companies, they travel through networks which include sorting machinery, shoots and a number of manual handling stages. In order to ensure the sample package reaches it's destination in the same perfect condition it is dispatched in, the packaging we apply is necessary to avoid the need for us to send replacements which is far more wasteful of resources.
We have trialed many different packaging methods and found our current solution to be by far the most successful, although we continue to investigate new technologies to seek an improved alternative solution. All materials used are recyclable and Total Tiles supports The National Forest tree planting program to offset the carbon footprint of the bubble wrap used.
When considering new business partners including product suppliers, we consider their approach to environmental protection a key factor in the decision making process.
As part of our new product selection process, products which utalise new technologies to reduce their impact on the environment will always receive our priority consideration for addition to our range.
